november 6, 2020 @ 14:30 - 21:30

Dear Educational Development Colleague:

Free UNH Zoom Webinar: Empower Students for Academic Success: Teaching Students Study Skills Informed by the Science of Learning

We at the Center for Excellence and Innovation in Teaching and Learning (University of New Hampshire, USA) are pleased to announce an upcoming virtual conference (Zoom Webinar) titled “Empower Students for Academic Success: Teaching Students Study Skills Informed by the Science of Learning.” The Webinar will take place on Friday, November 6, 2020, from 8:30 am until 3:30 pm EASTERN STANDARD TIME, USA. There will be brief scheduled breaks between sessions and a lunch break from 11:45 AM until 12:30 PM. There is no registration fee or other charges to participants.

This is one of a series of conferences/institutes we have organized and hosted on an applying science of learning in education theme (https://www.unh.edu/cetl/ceitl-conferences). You can further review additional information here.

This webinar should be of interest to faculty who want to assist their students in acquiring and using study strategies that may improve their learning, retention, and transfer of academic material. It also should be of interest to staff of teaching and learning centers, faculty/educational development programs, student learning assistance programs, student academic success programs, etc.

We have an excellent line-up of presenters: Mark McDaniel (co-author, Make It Stick), Megan Sumeracki (co-author, Understanding How We Learn: A Visual Guide), and Norman Bier (Executive Director of the Carnegie Mellon University Simon Initiative). Catherine Overson and Victor Benassi (co-editors, with Christopher Hakala, Applying the Science of Learning in Education) will present on UNH’s Student Cognition Toolbox (https://www.unh.edu/cetl/grant-student-cognition-toolbox).

Registration is required and is now open. If you plan to participate in the webinar, to ensure your spot, please register now by clicking here. You can also copy and paste this URL into your browser: https://www.unh.edu/cetl/empower-students-academic-success-teaching-students-study-skills-informed-science-learning-0

Please forward this invitation to colleagues who may be interested in participating in this event. Besides faculty and teaching graduate students, we would appreciate if you forwarded the invite to any colleagues you might have in a teaching/learning center, educational development center, learning assistance center, first-year program, etc.

This Zoom Webinar is made possible by a grant (The Student Cognition Toolbox) from the Davis Educational Foundation (Yarmouth, Maine). The Foundation was established by Stanton and Elisabeth Davis after Mr. Davis’s retirement as chairman of Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc.

Sincerely,
Catherine Overson and Victor Benassi
